Signs You Need a New Starter in Your High-Performance Engine

If you’ve cracked the cylinder block, motor oil will saturate the starter and kill it. If your high-performance automobile has over 100,000 miles on it, the starter will likely go bad. Do not worry. Excelerate Performance is the best performance auto shop in Branford, and we can replace the starter motor when it goes bad. If you are lucky, the starter will give you a warning that it is going out. Below, you will find signs that you need a new starter in your high-performance vehicle’s engine.

Pre-Ignition Noises

The warning we talked about above is noises before the engine fires up. When you push the start button or turn the ignition key, you may hear whirring or clicking noises. This is a sign that the starter is having trouble turning over the engine so it can intake fuel and air. If the engine does fire up, head straight to our shop because you may not get a warning the next time you start your automobile.

A Dead Engine

The next time, you may end up with a dead engine in your high-performance vehicle. No matter how hard you try, the engine will not start because the starter is no longer turning it over. This prevents the engine from bringing in the air and fuel that it needs for combustion. It also prevents the spark plugs from generating sparks in the cylinders because the starter provides them the power to do so. Unfortunately, at this stage, you will have to have your high-performance vehicle towed to us.

Lights That Work

If you suspect that the problem is actually a dead battery, turn on the headlights, check the taillights, and check the interior lights of your high-performance automobile to see if they are working. If they are illuminated and the brightness is normal, the battery is not the problem. The working lights indicate that they have electricity being generated by the battery. Consequently, the most common reason why your engine will not start is at the starter motor is malfunctioning and, again, cannot turn over the engine.

Burning/Smoke

Finally, if you continue in your efforts to fire up your high-performance engine, the only thing you will accomplish is overheating the starter motor. This will leave you with burning odors in the engine and smoke coming out from underneath the hood. Stop trying to start the automobile.

Have your high-performance beauty towed to Excelerate Performance in Branford, CT, so we can install a new starter in the engine.
