Signs it’s Time for a New Drivetrain

Bring your high-performance vehicle to Excelerate Performance right away if you notice any of the problems listed below. These problems are signs that the drivetrain is in serious need of repair. Your car’s drivetrain is made up of several parts that work together to put the vehicle in motion. Drivetrain parts include the axles, CV joints, differential, driveshaft, transmission, and wheels.

Intense Vibration

If your high-performance beauty has started to vibrate like crazy while you are driving, you could have a problem with the carrier bearings or couplers. When these parts wear out, the driveshaft starts to vibrate, and, as such, you will feel your entire automobile vibrate.

Problems Steering

You turn the steering wheel and your vehicle changes direction; that is, if everything is working properly. One thing that puts a kink in your vehicle’s ability to turn is a worn u-joint in the driveline. This joint can directly affect how well your wheels respond to your steering commands.

Clunking Noises

These noises generally point to the transmission. You will hear the clunking sounds when put your automobile into gear and/or when you or the automatic transmission shifts the gears. You never want to hear clunking coming from the transmission. This is a bad sign.

Shuddering Acceleration

We talked about the u-joint above, and another problem it can cause is shuddering acceleration. This is a sign that the u-joint is too loose and needs to be tightened (provided it isn’t worn and needs to be replaced). You may also have bad bearings in the drivetrain that are causing the motion.

Squeaking Noises

We talked about the transmission clunking above but it generally doesn’t squeak. What can squeak, however, is a dry u-joint. Again, provided the joint is still in good shape, we can lube it to prevent the squeaking sounds. If it’s worn out, we’ll have to replace it to stop the squeaking.

Knocking Noises

Finally, knocking noises coming from underneath your high-performance automobile are an indication that the CV joints are failing and need to be replaced. If you ignore the problem, you could end up with a broken axle or axles. It’s better to have the knocking sound repaired ASAP.
