A Vacuum Leak Can Affect Your High-Performance Engine’s Performance

If you have been having problems with your high-performance engine, it could be that one of the vacuum hoses is leaking. Excelerate Performance can inspect the engine to find the leaking hose and replace it. Just call us or bring your vehicle to our shop. Let’s talk about the signs of an engine vacuum leak below so you know what to look for in your high-performance automobile.

Performance Lag

As the vacuum pressure escapes from the leaking hose, it fills the high-performance engine with air. Unfortunately, this will cause the engine to lag, especially the acceleration. The engine may also sputter at high speeds because it is being fuel-starved by the excess air. You will continue to have these engine performance issues until we replace the leaking vacuum hose.

Reduced Fuel Economy

To add salt to the wound, you won’t get the gas mileage you usually get out of your high-performance engine. This is because the engine will burn through what fuel it has to produce the power you desire. Anytime the engine is unable to run in an efficient manner it will use more fuel. This is just the nature of mechanics. Once the engine’s performance is restored, your fuel economy will be restored.

Sporadic Engine RPMs

You may be able to see your vacuum leak. If you keep an eye on your vehicle’s tachometer and see the needle bouncing up and down, this is a sign that the vacuum pressure is being released from the leaking hose in spurts. Consistently high RPMs point to a steady stream of vacuum pressure.

Strange Engine Noises

If you suspect your high-performance engine is leaking vacuum pressure, listen carefully while the engine is running. Vacuum leaks make two types of noises: suction and hissing. If you hear either of these noises coming from the engine, swing by our shop for a new vacuum hose.

Component Malfunction

The reason why the vacuum pressure is routed through your engine instead of discarded is so it can power components such as your power steering pump. If you start to have problems with your steering or other components, it could be because of a vacuum leak.

Check Engine Warning

Finally, the air-heavy condition in the engine will trigger a check engine warning on the dashboard. This is in response to error codes submitted by system sensors.
