Fred came to Excelerate Performance because he was in desperate need. Desperate need for someone to treat his baby with the respect and love it deserves. Fred purchased this car with lower mileage with the hopes of lasting a while before anything major maintenance wise needed to be done. Unfortunately, you take many risks by buying used vehicles. The 360 Modena is highly prone to the plague of cam variator failure if the car is an earlier model.
One day Fred went out for a cruise and leaned into the throttle merging onto the highway when the car had a sudden drop in power. Only half the motor was running. Immediately the car was shut off and towed in to Excelerate Performance. When the car arrived Jamie started doing some diagnostic work. It was pretty obvious what happened when we got the car here. Broken Camshaft variator. Th tip had broken off in typical fashion.
In this link you can read more in depth as to why the variator is such an important piece to making the engine idle and perform properly. This was our first repair to this involvement , and it wasn’t easy. Special order parts, custom made tools, a whole lot of reading and speaking to Ferrari specialists but our team was able to get the job done and properly.
